CPR
John Myers suggested that it might be valuable for members to be current in CPR. If you haven't had a class recently, some of the protocols have changed. Dr. Isbel will check on availability of instructor. Bob Brown will look into the possibility of the city providing an AED (defibrillator) for the airport. Additionally, the possibility of sponsoring a bloodmobile drive was also discussed.

User Fees
General Aviation pilots should all be concerned with FAA proposals for user fees. Phil Boyer of AOPA predicts that user fees could be the end of general aviation as we know it. Boyer went on to say of the Bush 2008 budget proposal that "the administration is manufacturing an FAA 'funding crisis' in a smoke-and-mirrors attempt to divert attention away from the real issue — the need to address the problems that constrain capacity, efficiency, and new technology adoption." Visit the AOPA website for more information on this issue at www.aopa.org

To learn how user fees are working (or not working) in Europe, watch the 8 minute video on AOPA’s website “Euro-Fees Fears; what does it really cost”

Be aware that letters currently take 2 to 3 months to reach your Senators by the time it passes through new security messures. Email may be a better option. To contact Senator Shelby, write to senator@shelby.senate.gov. To contact Senator Sessions, go to http://sessions.senate.gov/email/contact.cfm. If you do wish to send a written letter, send a copy by fax to ensure timely delivery. John Bundy spoke to Congressman Aderholt’s office about FAA user fees last week and was told that he had been the first contact on this issue.

Current FAA funding expires in September. It is important that we make our voices heard on this issue.

2007 Calendar

Ron Iaconis has been building a new air strip on his property. It is a bit short of fixed wing, but just right for those gyro operators. He invites everyone check out his threads on the forum web site listed below, with photos of his new air strip, soon to be planted in bermuda grass.
