GA needs you to step up, fight battle for small airportsToo many general avaition members are sitting back while the heads of their organizations battle the firestorm that started with the USA TODAY article blasting the government for allowing Aviation Trust Fund dollars to be squandered on small airports, according to this editorial. Members need to get motivated and act the way the Flyer's Rights crowd, run by Kate Hanni, did, and start petitions and take other action to fight for the survival of the small airports. More on User Fees: |
FAA user fees STILL possible for 2011The two top members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee are urging President Barack Obama to drop aviation user fees from his 2011 budget proposal. The president's 2010 budget hinted at a move toward user fees in 2011, and the issue has become central to the current debate over reauthorizing the FAA. Reps. Jerry Costello, D-Ill., and Tom Petri, R-Wis., are backing an extension of the current system, which maintains the air travel system through taxes on fuel and tickets, rather than user fees. To see a copy of their letter. NOTE I: I spoke to Congressman Aderholt's office about supporting the Costello/Petri letter on October 8. The staffer I spoke to was not familiar with aviation funding and user fees. Take a minute to call your congressman and be prepared to educate the person you speak with. (LB) NOTE II: Congressman Aderholt did sign on to the October 20th letter, along with 117 other members of congress, opposing user fees. |
